UK Bingo News Round Up - Closures And Openings

It's been a tough couple of weeks for the UK Bingo industry. As the smoking ban fast approaches, there's a general air of panic in the Bingo world, concerned at the effect the ban has had in Scotland. The industry north of the border has been hit hard with closures and loss of revenues as smoking players don't spend so much at Bingo, or worse stay home. There's fears that the same will happen in England and Wales this year.

Ahead of the ban, Mecca Bingo announced the closure of nine UK clubs around the UK in a preemptive reorganisation of their clubs. The clubs at Fulham, Islington, Kingston-upon-Hull, Liverpool, Reading, Sheffield, Swansea, Welling and Wolverhampton are set to close in coming months. It's going to be a tough year in the bricks an mortar Bingo industry. As a result, online Bingo is set to expected to grow this coming year.

But it's not all doom and gloom, in amongst the closures and fears, there's new clubs opening up around the country as well. The move away from the old style small hall to big, modern, purpose-built can be seen with new clubs opening alongside the closures.
